Rota is now in Typhoon Condition of Readiness 1 as of 5 PM ChST. Saipan and Tinian remain in Typhoon Condition of Readiness 3. .AREAS AFFECTED... This local statement provides information and recommended actions for people on Guam and on Rota, Tinian and Saipan in the Northern Marianas. .Watches/Warnings... A Typhoon Warning continues for Guam and Rota. A Tropical Storm Warning and a Typhoon Watch continues for Tinian and Saipan. A Flood Watch is in effect for Rota, Tinian and Saipan in the Northern Marianas. Please listen closely for any Flood Warnings that might be in effect for your area. A Flash Flood Warning is now in effect for Guam. Please check the latest public and marine forecasts for detailed information about additional hazards. .STORM INFORMATION... At 7 PM ChST...the center of Typhoon Champi (29W) was located near latitude 12.6N...longitude 146.7E. This was about 140 miles east-southeast of Guam. Storm motion was west, 280 degrees, at 15 mph. Storm intensity was 130 mph. This general forecast track will take Champi just south of Guam as a Category 4 typhoon as it intensifies further the next few days. .SITUATION OVERVIEW... Typhoon Champi (29W) has been undergoing rapid intensification today. As a result it is now a dangerous category 4 typhoon. It is expected to pass a little south of Guam as a super typhoon within the next 12 hours. This may potentially bring devastating wind conditions to much of Guam during passage. .PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Take small loose objects indoors. Identify suitable shelter. Stock up a few days worth of food and water. If no concrete shelter is available look for a cave or something similar. Take action to protect food crops or other possessions as appropriate.
